Zoom Online Classes Tips

Yoga On Zoom hr.jpg

What you need to join:

  • A computer / tablet / smartphone and Wi-Fi / mobile network.  A bigger screen is better :)

  • A FREE Zoom Cloud Meetings (basic account).  Download zoom ASAP to allow you time to set it up, define your settings (you can change them any time) and test it out well before the class - click HERE to download Zoom.  Find out more about Zoom by clicking HERE.  If using a computer/web browser Zoom works better on Google Chrome – To download Google Chrome click HERE.

  • Book your for classes as soon as possible Here - You will be emailed the Zoom class ID and Passwords  once you have completed your booking.  There is also a link that will take you direct into the class without entering ID's or passwords.

  • Find a clear spot to practice in.  Have your video and audio turned on.  Think about your camera set up so I can see you and as much of your mat as possible.  This will enable me to provide personal guidance as I do at our in-person classes.  Having the camera higher up looking down on you, so can be seen lying or standing, with your mat either side on or on a diagonal if possible.

  • Arrive at least ten minutes early to allow you to set up and you can chat with the others students in the class before it begins J.  You will want to be on “Speaker View”, rather than “Gallery View” when we start the class, so you can see me clearly.

  • Ideally a mat (though a carpeted area could suffice) and any other yoga equipment (block, bricks, blanket, strap etc – see my yoga equipment blog click HERE - https://www.yogamatters.com).  You can also get a little creative using books, blankets pillows, ties and belts etc

  • If there is anything that you need to update me/tell me about, that might affect your practise (injuries, health etc) please let me know before each class. (e: mel@meleyoga.com).

Please don’t let the thought of technology put you off.  I’ve tested the set up with a number of people and they figured it out quickly.  And we will embrace any hiccups during our learning curve :)

Do let me know if you have any questions and I hope to see you on the screen!

A few things you need to know:

  • The name you sign up for Zoom with will be displayed on the screen for the other participants to see (you can change it at any time).  I will need to keep a register of who’s attended but wanted to let you know this so you don’t use something like an email address you wanted to keep private.  (Your first name and initial would work etc.)

  • When the class starts I will automatically mute you all.  But you will be able to unmute yourself if you need me.  You can also wave at me if you need me, and I can unmute you.

  • Familiarise yourself with how to change the audio and video settings.  You'll also want to locate speaker view and locate the chat setting during your first group call.

  • I will lock the class approx. 15 mins in, after this time the class can’t be joined, to avoid any disruptions.

  • If more than one of you are logging in from the same location, please make sure you both have your mic and video muted to start with.  (You don't want both mics on with the devices in the same room).

  • The sessions/screen with me teaching will be recorded, but only videos of my teaching will be used.  If I unmute, your audio will be captured and may be used.

By accepting/submitting this booking and attending the class you are:
